In this 3-part training, participants will:

  • Learn how to build an in-depth understanding of CLASS methodology
  • How to prepare to reliably asses teaching quality by focusing on the interaction's teachers have with their students
  • Feel prepared to take the reliability exam to become certified observers
Please note that this training is intended for CSPP agencies in Region C to meet MB 23-10 requirements. Region C includes 10 California counties: Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Tulare, and Ventura. Thank you for your cooperation.

ASPIRE funds are used to pay all associated participant fees for this Observer training ($900 value). Attendees must commit to attempting to pass certification testing within a 60-day window.

If you are unable to attend all sessions of a CLASS series: 

  • You may keep the provided materials and register for another offering of this event. Once registered, you must attend all parts of the offering (even if you have previously completed a portion of the training).

VCOE's Early Childhood Programs, in partnership with 21CSLA, is excited to offer a professional development training for ECE Administrators, Elementary School Principals, and Teacher Leaders.

In the training Equity-Centered Continuous Improvement through P-3 Assessments, participants will:

  • Be grounded in foundational knowledge and key practices of developmentally appropriate early learning assessments, with an emphasis on observational assessment for continuous improvement
  • Utilize and apply an equity frame to explore, unpack, and critique current assessment practices through examining assessment artifacts across the P-3 system.

Throughout this training, leaders will reflect, synthesize and apply learning to transform your local contexts in order to advance equity-centered, developmentally appropriate, and purposeful assessment into continuous improvement efforts across the P-3 system.

  • Explore principles of child development and alignment across the preschool to kindergarten continuum.

pathways to build foundational knowledge and deepen understanding of key practices.

Registration is required, no walk-ins will be allowed. Select one of the below sessions

  • Infant/Toddler Environments (Held in Spanish): Learn to adapt indoor and outdoor settings as informed by developmentally appropriate practices.
    • Session 1 - Participants will be encouraged to reimagine their environments through the influence of past and current early childhood professionals.
    • Session 2 - Participants will visit a model site. Instructions and location will be sent via email to those registered.
    • Session 3 - Participants will be supported in planning and goal setting to begin the transformation of their teaching environment and practices.
  • Incorporating STEM: Discover how to integrate hands-on STEM activities into your early childhood programming.
    • Session 1 - Focus on science and technology.
    • Session 2 - Focus on engineering and math.
    • Session 3 - Focus on the integration of these domains in early learning environments.
  • Trauma Responsive Practices: Use the science of resilience to create nurturing and healing programs.
