VCOE Technology Services 

The Technology Services Department at VCOE provides leadership and services for education and information technologies. TS is committed to providing effective, innovative, and reliable technology solutions to all teachers, students, administrators, support staff, parents, and community members throughout Ventura County. It is our goal as a regional leader in K-12 technology, to provide quality programs and services focused on:

  • Improving student achievement
  • Promoting professional development for both instructional and administrative technology tools and methods.
  • Improving efficiency in school business operations.
  • Lowering costs to clients through economies of scale, as well as centralizing and leveraging resources.
  • Increasing efficiency through innovative technologies.
  • Establishing best technology practices, procedures and policy.

Toward this end, TS works directly with district technology leaders and business and support staff.  TS also engages with numerous industry vendors to negotiate preferred pricing agreements and works closely with all major California K-12 technology programs, including CITE and the Gold Coast Regional Group, the CITE CTO Mentor Program, California School Information Services (CSIS), Technology and Telecommunications Steering Committee (TTSC), and K12 HSN.  TS also works directly with the CITE Board and legal council to review contracts and policy issues. 

TS leverages these activities and aligns its internal resources to implement a variety of technology services designed to ensure that all of Ventura County benefits from the best possible technologies, at reasonable prices and improved efficiencies.

VC SIS: English Language Learner for Experienced Users

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Whether you are new to the English Language Learner module in Q SIS or just need a refresher, this class will prepare you to successfully record and track ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessments for California) and other English Language Learner data seamlessly. You will learn to use the English Learner application as intended, as a comprehensive tool to track the status, placement, history, reclassification and test results of students in an English Learner Development program. You will come away from this training with the knowledge, understanding and skills to enter English Learner data in Q properly ensuring students receive appropriate services and support during their educational journey and to avoid state reporting errors in CALPADS. While receiving hands-on guided instruction, you will be introduced to the features of Q which are interconnected with the English Language Learner module such as Student Demographics, English Learner Proficiency Status, Program History, Communication Tracking and Test History.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
A basic understanding of English Learner Module or completion of the Intro English Language Learner Canvas course. 

VC SIS: Maintaining and Updating Student Schedules Canvas Training

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
In this session, you will learn to schedule students one at a time using Student Schedules and as a group using Assign Students, and Mass Schedules.  You will also learn best practices for unscheduling and rescheduling students during the school year and before the start of school without losing attendance, as well as handling unusual changes to the master schedule mid-year.  

Topics covered include:  

  • Using Student Schedules to Schedule and Unschedule a student

  • Using course plans as a scheduling tool

  • Using the Walk-in Scheduler

  • Using Mass Schedules to move an entire class from one section to another

  • Fixing and maintaining schedules during the school year

  • Change of teachers mid-year

This robust class is designed to conveniently fit into your busy work schedule. It is held over a 3 week period of time asynchronously. It’s flexible in that you may choose to finish all 4 hours of instruction in one setting, or to spread out the material over a span of time during the 3 weeks. You will receive feedback from your instructor throughout the time you spend in the course. Upon successful completion you will receive a digital badge/certificate you can add to your resume/portfolio and or provide to your LEA showing off your new skill set and ability in Q.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
This is a hands-on, self-guided, asynchronous, Canvas course. Participants will need a desktop / laptop computer with internet access to be able to complete the assignments in Q SIS game training database. Your instructor will send you information about how to get started in Canvas and how to log into our training system prior to the beginning date of the class.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Intro to Q Reports is a course that will walk you through all of the areas of a report in Q. You will learn where to find reports, how to sort and filter selections to get the most meaningful data, how to save custom settings, and how to publish your report results to a .pdf or export to Excel. Additionally, you will delve into Report Writer, learn to design a custom report and how to effectively use Pivot Tables allowing you to drill down to the precise data you need.

This robust class is designed to conveniently fit into your busy work schedule. It is held over a 3 week period of time asynchronously. You will become familiar with master schedule terminology and adopt best practice strategies to:

  • Resolve potential schedule conflicts with single course offerings (singletons)

  • Balance section size for multiple course offerings (doubletons and multiples)

  • Properly place specialty sections such as Academies, Block Schedules, Cycle Days, Team Teaching and more (constraints)

Intro to Q is an introductory class developed to get you acquainted with Q software by providing a general overview of its applications and various modules.
