The competition is open to all TK-12th grade teachers at Ventura County public, charter and private schools. California Governor Gavin Newsom visited the vaccination site at the Ventura County Office of Education (VCOE) in Camarillo Tuesday evening where thousands of local educators are being immunized against COVID-19. Trinity Pacific Christian School in Thousand Oaks is the first and second place winner of the 2021 Ventura County Mock Trial with Santa Susana High School in Simi Valley taking third place. Vaccinations for Educators to be Accelerated in Ventura County

The County of Ventura today announced a new goal of providing school employees with their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by the end of March, which is significantly sooner than had originally been anticipated. Ventura County has reached a COVID-19 case rate that allows all elementary schools to resume in-person instruction as early as today if they choose to do so and have taken required safety measures. Plans to begin reopening schools operated by the Ventura County Office of Education for in-person instruction are being postponed. This was a difficult decision that came after careful evaluation of the ongoing surge in COVID-19 cases and expected delays in the distribution of the vaccine. Stan Mantooth today announced his intention to retire from his position as Ventura County Superintendent of Schools effective February 1, 2021. Mantooth has served as Superintendent of Schools since he was appointed to the position in 2008. The effort to expand environmental education for Ventura County students is getting a boost from the national AmeriCorps volunteer program. Kate Bilse has joined the Ventura County Office of Education as an AmeriCorps volunteer for the 2020-21 school year. Bilse is a graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where she organized volunteer events for local environmental groups.
