The winner of the 2016 Ventura County Mock Trial competition will be announced at an awards ceremony Monday at 6:00 pm at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center at 800 Hobson Way. Grace Brethren and Adolfo Camarillo (Scorpions) are in contention for first and second place. Saint Bonaventure and Oak Park (Black) are vying for third and fourth place. The Ventura County Office of Education is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2016 Ventura County Academic Decathlon is Westlake High School. This is Westlake’s fifth consecutive victory. More than two dozen local high schools will field 32 teams in the Ventura County Mock Trial competition, which begins Monday in Ventura. Students will take on the major roles of a criminal court case, including attorneys, witnesses and even bailiffs. The breach of a whale above the surface of the ocean is one of the majesties of nature and also one of its greatest mysteries…until now. Two VCOE Career Education Center instructors were part of a CSU Channel Islands study that revealed the reason whales breach.
